03

Investment narrative.

Baobab Burkina Faso is a regulated microfinance institution and a subsidiary of the pan-African Baobab Group. It provides credit and other financial services to microentrepreneurs, small businesses and underserved customers through a nationwide network. As of March 2026, the institution operated 15 branches and served approximately 97,000 active borrowers, making it one of the larger financial institutions in the Spark+ portfolio by customer outreach.

The institution is developing a clean cooking strategy focused primarily on LPG. This creates an opportunity to use its existing distribution network, customer relationships and underwriting infrastructure to address affordability constraints that prevent households and small businesses from adopting modern cooking solutions.

Spark+ financing will support Baobab Burkina Faso’s loan-portfolio growth, with proceeds allocated to financing LPG equipment and related clean cooking solutions. By integrating clean cooking into its mainstream lending activities, Baobab Burkina Faso can expand access to LPG without requiring customers to fund the full upfront cost of cylinders, cookers and associated equipment.
